In honor of Suicide Prevention Month, the students at South Plainfield Middle School completed a “Chalk the Walk” activity! Nearly the entire student body participated in the event where they were encouraged to use chalk to write or draw a positive affirmation on the campus sidewalk. The students enjoyed being a potential “light” in someone’s dark day as well as spending a little time outside!

On Thursday, September 11, 2025 the Middle School acknowledged the 24th anniversary of the terrible events of September 11th, 2001 with a moving ceremony in the courtyard surrounding our September 11th monument. The students were extremely respectful and attentive. The students who participated in the ceremony performed flawlessly. Our Middle School family was impressed and extremely grateful for the tremendous support offered by our many guests including SP School District administrators, Board of Education members, local and state government officials, and various parents and members of the community. We were especially overwhelmed by the many first responders and veterans who attended and repeatedly support our assemblies including 9/11, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day. Thank you, students, for showing these guests what Middle School students are capable of!

Our 8th grade scientists rolled up their sleeves this week for a hands-on Rainbow Lab focused on three key goals:
🔬 Precision Measuring – Students practiced accurately measuring liquids using graduated cylinders.
📏 Following Directions – Careful step-by-step work tested their attention to detail.
🧪 Lab Safety – Goggles & Aprons on and safety skills in action to keep every scientist protected.
From steady hands to sharp eyes, our young scientists showed what it takes to work like real professionals in the lab, great job future chemists! 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

To welcome our middle school students back to class, club advisors set up a "photo booth" style greeting. What a great way to make a positive start and create lasting memories for our kids. We have a bunch of rock stars here at SPMS! Shout out to Mrs. McLaughlin and Mrs. LiVecchi for making this happen!

Awesome start to the school year! So wonderful to see our SPMS students back in the halls and classrooms. We've already witnessed some impressive acts of kindness this first week. Sharing school supplies with classmates and helping to set up games in the courtyard, just a couple examples of how thoughtful our kids are. Congratulations to this week's Tiger Buck Winners!!!

South Plainfield Middle School held their annual Memorial Day Assembly on Wednesday, 21 May 2025 in the Gymnasium. Each year the Middle School pays tribute to the men and women who have given their lives for this great nation. The Band (“American Declaration” and “Ultimate Valor”), Choir (“God Bless America” and “Danny Boy”), and Orchestra (“The Star-Spangled Banner”) performed amazingly, as well as a very moving performance of “Taps” performed by Kiarah Duncanson and Lucia Matias. Seventh Grade students Mark and Mason McConville presented a wreath at center court as a symbol of gratitude from the SPMS Family and a grateful nation for the faithful and honorable service and sacrifice of all who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom. The Middle School also acknowledged the generosity of Mr. Marc Denton who donated the POW/MIA Flag that flies in front of the Middle School along with the American Flag and the NJ State Flag.

Mrs. Guastella and the Middle School Science Club hosted several events to celebrate Earth Month. Students participated in the town cleanup, created up-cycled bird feeders and the first annual "thrift exchange," which was a great success! Thank you, Mrs. Guastella, for going above and beyond with these students and creating lessons of environmental stewardship for our school.
