SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — There was plenty of excitement across the South Plainfield School District recently as students and staff came together to celebrate a very special milestone: the first birthday of Brody, the district’s therapy dog.
During a series of meet-and-greet visits throughout the district, Brody and his handler, Mrs. Simpson, spent time connecting with students and staff while sharing the important role therapy dogs play in supporting school communities. During the visits, Mrs. Simpson let students in on a special secret; Brody would be celebrating his first birthday this weekend.
Students were invited to help make the occasion extra special by creating birthday cards for Brody. The response was overwhelming. Hundreds of colorful, creative, and heartfelt cards poured in from schools across the district in the days leading up to his birthday.
The cards featured everything from hand-drawn portraits of Brody to birthday wishes, poems, and messages of appreciation from students who have already gotten to know our district's newest employee.
“Brody has quickly become a favorite throughout the district,” said Mrs. Simpson. “The kindness and enthusiasm shown by our students through these birthday cards has been incredible. We are so grateful for the warm welcome he has received.”
While turning one year old is an exciting milestone for any dog, it also marks the beginning of an important new chapter for Brody. Now that he has reached his first birthday, Brody will become a regular daily presence in South Plainfield schools, providing comfort, support, and smiles to students and staff throughout the district.
Therapy dogs have been shown to help reduce stress, encourage positive social interactions, and create a welcoming school environment. Brody’s calm demeanor and friendly personality have already made a positive impact during his visits, and district leaders are excited for the role he will continue to play in supporting student well-being.
As Brody celebrates his birthday surrounded by hundreds of handmade cards and well wishes, the South Plainfield School District looks forward to many more years of companionship, comfort, and joy from its four-legged friend.
Happy First Birthday, Brody!
