New Information Coming Soon

Good Evening Riley Parents, Guardians and Staff,

We have had a great week at Riley School. This month we are celebrating Caribbean Heritage  Month.  Each morning I have been sharing facts about Caribbean Heritage Month during my Morning Message. The character trait for June is perseverance. On Wednesday, June 1st , we had our annual Multicultural Door Decorating Contest.  Each class had to decorate a country selected and students and and their teacher worked collaboratively to create a beautiful Multicultural door filled with pictures and facts about each country.  Once again our students did a great job! Mr. Fierra, Director of Counseling, Mr. Pender, Board member, Mrs. Dupiche, Assistant Principal and I were the judges. It was a very competitive contest and there it was a tie among 5 contestants.  Each winner received 10 extra minutes of recess time. The winners were as follows:

Mrs. Sottiriou's Class - Zimbabwe
Ms. Ramsey's Class - Antartica
Mrs. Winter's Class - Ghana
Mrs. Paschall, Mrs. Shupack, Ms. Timko & Mrs. Eckhardt - Australia
Ms. Oloyede & Ms. Ashnault - Trinidad & Tobago

Ms. Oloyede & Ms. Ashnault  awarded their extra recess to Mrs. O'Brien's 3rd grade classroom.
Mrs. Paschall, Mrs. Shupack, Ms. Timko & Mrs. Echkhardt awarded their extra recess to Mrs. Lando's 2nd grade classroom.

I want to thank all our teachers and staff for participating and being so supportive as they had to do research on these countries and share important facts with their students.

Today we celebrated our Multicultural Day and we had 6 presenters and all our students enjoyed learning about Guyana, Germany, India, Trinidad, Philippines and Colombia.  Special thanks to our presenters, Mrs. Fordyce, Mrs. Ramdawar, Mrs. Divanji, Mrs. Patel, Mrs. Gomez and Mr. & Mrs. Martinez for their time and for sharing interesting facts about each country. They brought artifacts, pictures and used technology  to show videos about their country to our students. A very special thanks to Ms. Ashnault for organizing both the Multicultural Door contest and our Multicultural Day. I also want to thank all the parents for sending their child dressed in a native outfit of their country.  It was so beautiful to see such a variety of countries represented.

This week Ms. Arnold, our media specialist sent home notices for books your child has taken out from the library during the school year.  These notices were sent just as reminders that they need to be returned before the 17th.  They are not intended as bills, unless the book has been lost.  If the book has been lost, the library will accept a used (very good) replacement (in the same format-hardcover, etc.) of the lost book, or will accept the amount listed on the notice.

If you have not received a notice, but you know your child has books out, don't worry, they are not overdue.  They just need to be back before the last day of school.  This was the last week for most students to check out.

The following are the important updates for the week of June 6-10th:

June 7th -  Half Day Dismissal due to Half PM Professional Development. Students will receive lunch prior to their 1:00pm dismissal. Please pick up your child on time. Students who take the bus will have transportation on that day. Also, there will be no After Care on June 7th. Due to the expected increase number of public citizens entering schools to vote and the rising COVID -19 numbers, we will offer both virtual drop-in and in-person instruction. Parents can choose either one.
June 7th - Pajama Day sponsored by our Student Council - $2.00 donation
June 8th
 - 4th grade field trip to Bowlero
June 10th - Carnival Day
